Motorbase Performance and David Bartrum made an emergency phone call on Saturday morning around 8.30am when regular GT driver Gary Eastwood was taken ill. Moseley grabbed his race kit and dodged the traffic in time to arrive shortly after GT morning practice had started. Meantime co-driver Phil Quaife got in test laps as Stuart signed on and got a special drivers briefing.
While the session progressed both drivers set some great times in the wet conditions keeping the car at the head of the GTC class. GT qualifying started with an almost dry track, and Quaife managed 5th to start. At half time Moseley jumped in and with some clear track he was up to 3rd but then the yellow flags came out for the remainder of the session making any further progress impossible. Stuart said “Unfortunately the yellow flags stopped us getting the pole. It’s a shame as I could have easily picked up those 2 tenths”."
Sunday’s 2 hour race started in superb form with Quaife moving up into the GTC lead and 5th overall during the first ten laps. However things started to go wrong, as the track conditions improved the Motorbase car began to struggle for traction.
One hour into the race and Moseley took over the car in a superbly slick Motorbase pit stop. Unfortunately the pairing was down to 3rd and loosing time. Moseley radios to the pits for slick tyres to be prepared. This was a gamble but once the racing line had become dry he was in for dry rubber. Straight away he became the fastest car on the track, cutting the lead each lap for 10 laps.
The dream result wasn't to happen. As the heavens opened for a final time and the stop for wets was a costly 3rd pit stop, thus rendering a podium position out of reach. However, fastest lap and some excitement in the pits made this surprise GT race entertaining for the team and sponsors alike!
