Stuart Moseley racked up his sixth pole position of the year in the Dunlop Radical Enduro Championship at Silverstone this weekend with a time nearly one second faster than his nearest competitor.
The 28-year-old, from Loughborough, had no chance to convert his qualifying pace into race results, however, after track incidents and mechanical failure frustrated his charge up the points table. Moseley, who drives for Bruichladdich Radical racing, and his co-driver Tim Greaves, now lie in thrid place overall with 4 rounds still to race.
After such an encouraging performance the team was hopeful of closing in on main championship rivals, Quaife / Atkins, during Sunday's racing but Moseley barely got to drive the car after a racing incident saw Greaves in the gravel in race one. "He was in a battle fighting for the lead," said Moseley, who had opted to take the second driving stint of the endurance race. "It ended in the gravel and Tim had to do a drive through into the pits to empty rubble from the side pods."
"He went back out but there was still gravel in the car. It jammed the throttle and sent him into the gravel again so we ended up doing three pit stops instead of one. My drive went OK. I was obviously sat on a load of gravel but the car ran quite well considering. We were two laps down so there was nothing to be gained by pushing to the finish, just prepare for race 2"
Despite the result, the team was encouraged by the car's performance, with Moseley only narrowly missing out on the fastest lap despite having to nurse the car. Its ability was left uncharted though as the car failed to make the grid for its second pole position of the day, after losing pressure on the green flag lap.
"It's pretty disappointing because we've been on pole now six times and now and only managed to convert that into one win," said Moseley. "We thought we'd come away with a truck load of points here after the qualifying and winning the championship was looking quite good."
"We're still second in the championship though and now we just need a little bit of luck to swing our way. We've proved we have the pace and the performance to win races."
The next Radical Enduro round is at Thruxton on August 6th.
